Revolution 2025

Lucy Smith (Nottingham)

Tuesday 22nd of April 2025

Revolution is a national camp joint between Explorers and Network, but also SSAGO and SAGGA! It is held over the 4 days of the Easter bank Holiday weekend on the Isle of Wight annually. Over the 4 days you participate in many activities that are all included in the price alongside the camp fee and evening entertainment. You are on a timetable which ensures you take part in all activities. This year's theme was ‘the fifth season’.

Day 1

Day 1 involves travelling over to the IoW, most SSAGO groups do this by car or minibus as plenty of room is needed for kit for the long weekend. Once we arrived on Friday, we set up camp, cooked up some dinner and headed down to the opening ceremony at 7pm. This involved introductions to the organising committee and other formalities. This was followed by a disco starting at 8pm and a campfire at 10pm which allowed us SSAGO members to show off our extensive campfire song knowledge. There was also an adult only bar area which was frequented by many and it was bigger than the previous years which was a big bonus!

Day 2

Friday rolled around fast, and the activities were kicked off for Nottingham with pitch and putt, where we learned that some people were much better at golf than others… This was followed up with tree climbing, where our mascot boozy took a trip to the top of a tall tree, with group member Ethan. Our final activity of the day was a ukulele workshop, where Abby had a chance to show off her skills, and I was so inspired by the instrument, when I got home from the IoW i brought one for myself! The evening drew in and we had the option of watching Moana, as our summer cinema movie, and then the summer fete, and of course we had the classic campfire too.

Day 3

Day 3 kicked off with a trip to the leisure centre, where you’d never guess it, we didn’t swim, but we went skateboarding! Plenty of mascots went for some trips up and down the hall, and a mascot may have even been abandoned and picked back up by another group… The rest of the day was filled with some enthusiastic morris dancing in the sunshine, and finally some go-karting back on site, where SSAGO and SAGGA showed their need for speed! With the theme of this evening being the next season, summer, onsite there was a showing of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as well as some karaoke, but SSAGO and SAGGA took a trip offsite to a local pub, where many members feasted on a lovely warm carvery.

Day 4

Our final day of activities kicked off with a chilly morning of surfing on the beach, where the waves were rolling, and SSAGOers were shivering! After a nice break and some lunch we had one of the SSAGO/SAGGA favourites - headhunters! After an intense game filled with sneaking around, assassination, and betrayal, we headed to our final activity of the week. We arrived at a local Guide hut for some pottery, which was a much needed chill way to end the day, where many people showed off their artistic skills. Back at camp, we had a christmas movie showing of Elf, followed by a very sad closing ceremony, as this meant the weekend was coming to a close. But this was followed with the classic UV disco where we all had a nice boogie.

Day 5

Monday morning we woke to the fact that Revolution had once again come to an end. We packed up camp and headed home. And while the weekend was over, the memories will last a lifetime. As last time, some honourable mentions from the weekend include: (as always) the milk machine, Philipa making her way on top of the carvery, and there being a suspicious amount of leeks around the site…

I can’t wait to go again next year!
